2024 F-150 4X4 Supercrew King Ranch Full Hybrid - It's a Whole Lotta Truck!

Mercy me! Why did this truck appeal to me? There is no rational reason. I'm old, I hate trucks I have to literally climb up into, and I hardly ever have a need for a truck. Yet I found myself liking this behemoth.

And make no doubt about it, it is big. Maybe not the biggest truck in the parking lot but big enough that if fills to overflowing many parking spaces. It is 232" (just shy of 20'), 77.1" high, and 79.9" wide (or 95.7" including the mirrors). For comparison a standard parking spot is between 8.5'-9.0' wide, and 18' long.

So why did I like it?

Partly because of the power train. The 3.5-liter, PowerBoost V6 has 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque on tap. Fuel economy is rated at 24-mpg on the highway and 22-mpg around town. I have no doubt it will meet or exceed the highway rating; I came close to the city rating.

The Full Hybrid does not use start/stop technology, at least not as normally understood. The gas engine does shut off at stops or very low speeds but then the truck goes into electric mode. Sometimes, but not always, I felt the transition from electric to gas was harsh. This happened when accelerating away from a stop with a heavier throttle. It's not terrible but I felt it.

Ford's ten-speed automatic is the only transmission. I've always felt it worked well. This model had four-wheel-drive, something I never used but unlike 4X4s of yore it never made itself known unless called upon.

Being a King Ranch model I'd say the interior was the epitome of Cowboy (or Cowgirl) Chic.

In fact it's so nice that if you've been stepping in some cow pies you best take off your boots before climbing in.

Yes there are dials for the sound system and climate control, thank you.

And there is a big, beefy, leather covered gear shift lever!

Many years ago, when we used 3.5" floppy disks in computers (yeah I'm that old) I took an introductory course on how to use a computer and the Internet. It helped. Now I, and probably many others, need a course in how to fully use all the tech in a vehicle. Like my iPhone I think I use no more than 25% of its capabilities. So my point is that vehicles are too darn complicated for me. In the end I just ignore things.

A Supercrew does not have the longest bed, it is only 5.5' long with the tailgate up. Put the tailgate down and your 4X8 sheet of plywood will hang over a few inches. You can put 1,755 lbs. of stuff in the bed, and tow up to 11,200 lbs. (other models/engines increase this to 2,445 lbs. and 13,500 lbs.).

I have no rational reason for liking the F-150 4X4 Supercew King Ranch Full Hybrid. But I did. If I had to drive cross-country in blizzard I might opt for this truck, it felt like nothing could stop it.

You probably think a truck this nice is really expensive. My wife always asks me "What's the price?" I thought for a minute and said "Over $90,000." Boy was I wrong. Without options, but still nicely outfitted a King Ranch like this is $76,135 (ford.com). Options and destination add about another $6,630. That may seem like a lot of bucks but it isn't in today's market.

If you think a 2024 F-150 4X4 Supercrew King Ranch Full Hybrid might be for you go see your local Ford dealer.
