2024 Genesis G70 RWD 3.3T Sport Prestige - A fine sports sedan
Every time I drive a Genesis I am impressed. They really are nice vehicles. But I just don't like the Bond Silver (satin) paint. I want paint that shines! Luckily there are colors that shine. Take for instance this version in Kawah Blue (yeah I like blue):

But back to the test G70. There are two engines available in a G70, a 2.5-liter, turbo four (300 HP & 311 lb-ft), and the engine in the test G70, a 3.3-liter, turbo V6 that ups the ante to 365 HP and 376 lb-ft. Both require unleaded premium fuel, and both are only available with an 8-speed automatic. Obviously I think the way to go is with the V6. The fuel economy is not that far apart (V6 @ 18 city & 27 highway; 4-cyl @ 21 and 29). I saw just under the highway figure with a mix of about 80% highway and 20% around town.
Seeing as this was a Sport model performance figures are important but don't forget it is also a luxury car. Car and Driver says the V6 can do 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds. That's darn good. More important in my book are the big Brembo brakes. It's always nice to know your fast car can stop.
The seats were gorgeous and oh so comfortable. I would opt for Obsidian Black instead of white because I tend to spill things.
The only criticism I have about the interior is if the driver or front seat passenger is tall rear seat knee room may be tight. My wife, who is 5' 4", asked me (I'm just under 6') to move my seat up a touch because she felt crowded.
I liked the instrument panel, it looked sporty and gave enough info. As you can see by the thermometer it's been warm where I am and the A/C did a superb job of keeping us cool; front and rear.
I like seat coolers (the little buttons with a seat and fan) maybe more than seat heaters. No sweaty shirts when cool air wafts over your back.
The info screen wasn't so big that it demanded attention. I would like the song info to be bigger but that wouldn't be a deal breaker.
The trunk will hold up to 10.5 cubic feet of stuff. Enough for a nice vacation. Towing is not recommended.
I always like driving a Genesis, any Genesis, but at heart I'm a car, not a SUV, guy. So the G70 suited me. It is a true sports sedan, fast, comfortable, and competent on backroads.
There are six drive modes - Comfort, Smart, Eco, Sport, Sport +, and Custom. I used Comfort (smooth ride), Eco (gas saver), and Sport. Sport stiffens up the suspension, makes the driver's seat more butt hugging, tightens up the transmission, and gives a slightly louder exhaust note. I used Comfort when my wife and granddaughter were in the car, Eco just to see what it was like, and Sport when I was alone. Sport+ turns off the traction control so I didn't use that. I should have tried Custom.
There are a few cars that make me sing "If I were a rich man" and the Genesis sedans are in that group. Driving either a G70 or G80 makes me feel good. The G70 is more nimble, the G80 roomier.
A base G70, still a very nice car, starts at $41,500. That's reasonable. The test G70 RWD 3.3T Sport Prestige starts at $54,350. As seems to be normal today most paint colors are extra. You can "build your own" at genesis.com. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you buy one.
