Monterey Car Week - The Week To End All Weeks

It's never to early to start planning your August vacation in Monterey California. Block out the week of August 14 (Monday) through August 21 (Sunday), 2016. Book your hotel room early (now would be a good idea) because it's almost Monterey Car Week!

Here's my rundown on the 2016 Monterey Week. I've tried to list the events in order by date. You should note that some events have multiple dates. After each event I've made some comments based on my past experience. I lifted most of the info (except my opinions) from http://www.montereycarweek.com/Events.html. I did check each event's site as well.

There is so much to do during the week that I won't get to every event. The good thing for you though is that many events have free aspects so regardless of your income you can see and experience some great automobiles. I suggest you check the websites for more information. For example on the extended Pebble Beach grounds there are events, like RetroAuto and the Automotive Fine Arts Society that are not listed separately here.

Also if you're going to one of the free events such as Concours On The Avenue be sure to patronize some of the area merchants.

If I've missed anyone please let me know and I'll update my article.

Automobilia Monterey - 16th & 17th, 10am-6pm, Embassy Suites, Seaside
www.automobiliamonterey.com
Automobilia Monterey is a great place to go for just what it's name suggests - automobilia.

Concours On The Avenue - 16th, 10am-5pm, Ocean Ave, Carmel-By-The-Sea
This is a great free event. You will see some awesome cars parked on Ocean Avenue. Get there early or expect to walk a fair distance because parking is at a premium. And the police will ticket you if you park illegally.

Classic Motorsports Magazine Monterey Kick Off Cruise-In - 16th, 3-7pm, Folktale Winery 8940 Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel
I have never been to this but I'm going see if I can get credentials this year.

Gordon McCall’s Motorworks Revival 2016 - 17th, 5-10pm, Jet Center, Monterey Airport
I've been once about 6 or 7 years ago. It's a really great event that is expensive and usually sells out early. The upside is your entrance gets you food and drink, and you can rub shoulders with the jet set.

The Little Car Show - 17th, noon-5pm, Lighthouse Ave, Pacific Grove
http://www.marinamotorsports.org/events/
Another free event and it is just what the name implies - a show of little cars. Good fun and laid back.

Carmel Mission Classic - 17th, 10am-5pm, Carmel Mission Basilica 3080 Rio Road, Carmel
www.carmelmissionclassic.org
Another show I haven't been to yet. I promised to go a few years ago and just didn't make it.

Dine In DeVine - 18th
I can’t find any information on this event and the website doesn’t work

Russo and Steele’s 16th Annual Sports and Muscle Auction - 18th, 19th & 20th, 5-10pm, 290 Figueroa St, Monterey
R&S is a fun auction to attend; very high engergy. If you can't afford to attend the auction you can see some of the vehicles if you walk around the perimeter fence.

Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance - 18th, 7:30-2:30pm, Various-see site for map
www.pebblebeachconcours.net
People pick out their favorite viewing spot along the route some very historic cars drive. Take a picnic basket and enjoy the Peninsula and the cars.

Mecum Muscle Cars & More - 18th, 19th & 20th, Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa
www.mecum.com
Another high energy auction. You can walk the field and view all the cars. It is huge.

Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction - 18th & 19th, Quail Lodge, Carmel
One of the more dignified auctions. It maybe the smallest in number of vehicles but not in their value. Bonhams always has some really rare and interesting cars.

Rick Cole Auctions - 18th, 19th, 20th,  21st & 22nd, Marriott Hotel, Monterey
The guy who started the collector car auctions in Monterey is back.

Automotive Film and Arts Festival - 18th, 19th & 20th  4-11pm,  Golden State Theater 417 Alvarado St, Monterey
I really don't know too much about this festival but it sounds interesting.

Third Annual “Aim For The Cures” Dinner at Pebble Beach - 18th, Parc du Concours, Pebble Beach
Definitely an event for high rollers. Good cause just way beyond my reach.

RM Auction - 19th & 20th, Portola Hotel & Spa 2 Portola Plaza, Monterey
RM Sotherbys always has interersting cars. If you gather in the plaza during the auction you can watch the cars being driven in for free.

Exotics on Cannery Row - 19th, 4-8pm, Cannery Row, Monterey
I went to this event for last year and it was packed. It's free, just stroll up and down Cannery Row and take in the sites; both cars and people.

Legends of the Autobahn - 19th, 7am-3pm, Nicklaus Club, Pasadera Dr, Monterey
Another event I've never attended.

The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering - 19th, 10am-4pm, Quail Lodge, Carmel Valley
www.signatureevents.peninsula.com/en/Motorsports/Motorsports.html
An upscale event - cars, food, drink and beautiful people. I've been a couple of times but they've cut me off. It is pricey.

22nd Annual Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally - 19th
An event for locals but you can see the cars for free.

Rolex Motorsports Reunion - 19th, 20th & 21st, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Historic auto racing at its best. "They" say they aren't really racing but you wouldn't know it from watching them go at it.

Werks Reunion - 19th, 7am-4pm, 4860 Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel
One more event I know nothing abuot.

Concorso Italiano - 20th, 9am-5pm, Black Horse Golf Course, Monterey
All things Italian especially cars. Maybe the largest gathering of Italian vehicles in North America.

Concours d’LeMons Monterey - 20th, 8am-2pm, 1249 Canyon Del Rey Blvd, Seaside
A silly car show that pokes fun at the big guys.

Pebble Beach Auction presented by Gooding & Co. - 20th & 21st, Pebble Beach
In my humble opinion the auction with the absolute best cars being offered. If you have to check your bank account you can't afford it.

The Barnyard Ferrari Event - 20th, 4-7pm, The Barnyard Shopping Village, Carmel
Another event I keep saying I'll attend but never get there

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elgance - 21st, dawn-5pm, The Lodge, Pebble Beach
www.pebblebeachconcours.net
There is no other. The creme de la creme of cars at one of the most beautiful settings in the world. Pebble has a whole host of events going on so check their website.
