Another hybrid sedan, another good choice. If you read my stuff, and I hope you do, you know I am a fan of hybrids. The electric part stretches a gallon of gas but without having to recharge.
The EPA rates the 2025 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited at 49-mpg city, and 52-mpg highway. I came close to that, and with a more judicious right foot I might have beaten them.
An Elantra, any Elantra, is sized very closely to a Honda Civic. No not the small Civic of your youth, but the big Civic of today. The Elantra Hybrid is 185.4" long, 71.9" wide, and 55.7" tall. The Limited version as tested weighs 3,069 lbs. The trunk has 14.2 cubic feet of space, and there is seating for 5 (you know my thoughts on rear seats).
You can fit three people in that seat but really put the armrest/drink holder down and treat it as a two-seat space.
The front seats were fine. It's been a long time since I've sat in a car seat that was terrible. We (car reviewers) used to talk about ergonomics, now I at least just assume car seats, at least the front ones, are going to be supportive in all the right places.
I like the look of the gauges. I've grown accustomed to heads-up speedometers and wish every car had one but a nice, readable gauge works too.
I don't know what it is about a gear shift lever but as soon as I see it sprouting up from the console I know, I just know, that a kindred spirit designed the interior.
On the other hand a black interior door hand in a black panel needs a rethink. In the dark I kept fumbling to find it.
Overall the 2025 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited drove and rode okay. I felt the suspension could use a bit more finese. It was harsh over bumps, harsher than some of its competition that I have driven.
I don't do comparisons, there is no way I can drive two similar cars at the same time. So I take each car as it is. The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited is a good choice. It is a bit less expensive than its competitors. It, and every Hyundai I've driven recently, lost that bargain-basement feel long ago. This is a car you can feel good in both because it looks good and it is good.
