My Monterey Car Week 2022 - The Plan

My Monterey Car Week 2022 will be an abbreviated week this year by design. I pared back my requests for credentials; I often try to cram too much into the limited time available.

This year I will only be on the Monterey Peninsula for three days. It would have been four days but the Concours on the Avenue (Ocean Ave. Carmel-by-the-Sea) was cancelled this year.

So I'll be down on Wednesday, August 17th, and Thursday the 18th. Wednesday night is Motorlux at the Jet Center, an event I am chuffed to attend. I'll get down early and wander about to some of the auctions, maybe the Little Car Show in Pacific Grove. I will head over to Pebble Beach to pick up my credential for the PB Concours d'Elegance on Sunday.

Thursday will be an easy day. There is a lot to see but I'm going to be picky and pace myself. There's a cocktail reception late afternoon hosted by RM Sotherby's. My day will end with a drive home.

Sunday will be the big day. I'll probably get up early (not unusual) and head to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. I've been going to Pebble for a couple of decades and I'm still like a kid in a candy store. As far as I'm concerned Pebble is the one West Coast car event you must attend at least once in your life.

So that will be my week. Check out the schedule of events and go see something yourself.

Sadly, the Carmel Concours on the Avenue is not just cancelled, it is no more. RIP Doug Freedman, founder of the event for whom I launched both his Ocean Avenue Motor Club, and the Concours. He was an extremely passion man, and a perfectionist, often frustrating car owners with his need for perfection, but he delivered. Every. Single. Year. The event was free, and it exposed so many people to our wonderful world of cars that otherwise would not have been able to experience them due to the ever-increasing price of event tickets on the Peninsula during Monterey Car Week. Have a blast in Montery, and I look forward to seeing photos.
